A1 tenses
O Pretérito Perfeito Simples
The Portuguese past tense for completed events. Eu falei, tu falaste, ele falou. This is the workhorse tense of Portuguese narrative — what you use for "I did, I said, I went" when the action is done and finished. Equivalent in function to French passé composé and Spanish pretérito indefinido.
B1 mood
O Conjuntivo
The Portuguese subjunctive — used to express doubt, desire, emotion, hypothesis, and uncertainty. Three tenses (present, imperfect, future). Triggered by specific verbs and conjunctions. One of the most demanding skills in Portuguese, and one of the most distinctive.
A2 tenses
O Pretérito Imperfeito
The Portuguese imperfect tense — the tense for habits, descriptions, and background in the past. Eu falava, tu falavas, ele falava. Used for ongoing past states, repeated past actions, and the backdrop against which discrete events happened.
